The City of New Smyrna Beach recently welcomed aboard Jim Egan as its new Marina Manager. We asked him three questions. ⛵️

Q: Tell us about yourself! What’s your superhero origin story?

A: After serving seven years in the U.S. Marine Corps, I started my career as a model-making apprentice creating handmade equipment models to test prior to going to production, ultimately landing as a Quality Engineer (QE) for a global outdoor power equipment company. A large part of my role as a QE took me to China to oversee pre-production engine quality testing. One of my favorite projects with this company was playing a major contributing role in the "Keep America Beautiful" project. Our team drove a riding mower across the United States to raise awareness about pollution and environmental protection.

Five years ago I took a leap of faith and moved to New Smyrna Beach from Strongsville, Ohio. An avid Ohio State football fan, I can be found cheering on the Buckeyes most Saturdays... O-H-I-O, or hanging with my wife and four dachshunds at Diamond Head Point Condos where I served as the HOA President for two years. Needless to say, I have grown to love the NSB community.

Q: What are your impressions of New Smyrna Beach?

A: I can honestly say I believe New Smyrna Beach is the best town in this country. I love being steps away from the beach and not having to fight the tough winters any longer. I am happy to substitute the salt on the roads of Ohio with salt on the rim of a margarita glass. I never thought my commute would now be just a short golf cart ride to the beautiful New Smyrna Beach City Marina. Looking forward to leveraging my professional background and working with the residents and visitors of New Smyrna Beach to promote the positive in our community.

Q: What’s the best way for people to get in touch with you?

A: I can be reached via e-mail at, phone at (386) 241-7187, or hail me on VHF channel 16. You can stop by the marina office at 201 N. Riverside Dr. to see me too.
