Airport Advisory Board: One (1) Vacancy
The Airport Advisory Board is comprised of six members who must be New Smyrna Beach residents. No member may serve more than two consecutive terms unless waived by the City Commission. The members are appointed by the City Commission. Members must possess experience directly related or involving aviation, active in the business community and proven experience in some area of business management. The Airport Advisory Boards advises the City Commission and City Manager on policy matters relating to the development, use and operation of the airport facility.
Animal Control Board: Two (2) Vacancies – one resident and one SEVHS Representative
The Animal Control Board is comprised of five members who must be New Smyrna Beach residents. No member may serve more than two consecutive terms unless waived by the City Commission. The Board must consist of a licensed veterinarian, a representative of the Southeast Volusia Humane Society, two animal owners and a citizen from the City who does not own an animal. The board recommends to the City Commission rules and regulations pertaining to operation of animal control facilities, standards, and procedures for enforcement and regulation. This is a Board that provides a very valuable service.
Golf Advisory Board: Two (2) Vacancies
The Golf Advisory Board is composed of seven (7) members New Smyrna Beach residents. No member may serve more than two consecutive terms unless waived by the City Commission. The duties and responsibilities of the Golf Advisory Board are to advise and make recommendations to the City Commission on matters relating to the operations of the Golf Course Facility and to submit a written report to the City Commission annually on or about Nov. 1 on the activity of the Board during the previous fiscal year.
Housing Authority: One (1) Vacancy
The Housing Authority is composed of five members who must be New Smyrna Beach residents. No member may serve more than two consecutive terms unless waived by the City Commission. In accordance with Florida Statutes, at least one member must be a resident who is current in rent in a housing project or a person of low or very low income and who receives a rent subsidy through a program administered by the authority or public housing agency that has jurisdiction for the same locality served by the Housing Authority. The Housing Authority prepares, carries out, acquires, leases and operates housing projects to ensure safe and sanitary living accommodations for persons of low income.
Utilities Commission: One (1) Vacancy
The Utilities Commission New Smyrna Beach was chartered under Chapter 67-1754 (1967) House Bill No. 1669 and amended under Florida State Laws Chapter 85.503 on June 12, 1985. The Commission is composed of five members who are qualified electors in the City. The Utilities Commission prescribes rules, rates and regulations governing the sale and use of electricity, water, and sewage collection and treatment. No member may serve more than three consecutive three-year terms. The Utilities Commission meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 3 p.m. in the DeBerry Room of the Utilities Commission at 200 Canal St.
