Novelist Celeste Ng’s bestselling “Everything I Never Told You” focuses on the dramatic events in the life of a Chinese-American family. So it’s only fitting that a culinary program with a tie-in to Ng’s novel would focus on Chinese cuisine. And that’s the theme of a one-hour cooking show with award-winning chef Warren Caterson that’s coming to the New Smyrna Beach Regional Library at 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30.
Chef Caterson will present an informative and entertaining cooking show that will include authentic, flavorful Chinese dishes and a cooking demonstration to show how to create lightning-quick, healthy entrees and sides from this ancient culture. In addition to being a chef, Caterson is a full-time writer who studied at the Southeast Institute of Culinary Arts. He is the award-winning author of cooking books such as “Table for Two – The Cookbook for Couples” and “Table for Two - Back for Seconds”.
A resident of Sarasota, Caterson travels extensively presenting his cooking demonstrations at food & wine festivals, conventions and other events across the country. More information can be obtained by calling the library at (386) 424-2910.
The cooking demonstration at the library located at 1001 W. Dixie Freeway in New Smyrna Beach is part of the NEA Big Read, a series of events over five weeks intended to encourage community reading through programs designed around a single book. The Volusia County Public Library system received a $15,000 NEA Big Read grant and selected the Celeste Ng novel for its title. The Volusia County Council matched that grant with an additional $15,000. The library system’s branches and other venues are hosting more than 130 programs such as book discussions, author talks, concerts and informative presentations based on the novel. The Big Read program runs from Jan. 25 through Feb. 29. A complete list of local events can be found at www.volusialibrary.org.
