NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FL – Congratulations are in order for New Smyrna Beach City Attorney Carrie Avallone for being designated as a Board Certified Specialist in the area of City, County, and Local Government. This certification is the is the highest level of evaluation awarded by The Florida Bar for competency and experience and represents a career milestone for any lawyer who earns it.
Only seven percent of eligible Florida Bar members – approximately 4,800 lawyers – have earned board certification in one or more of the 26 specialty areas offered. Board certified lawyers must have a minimum of five years in law practice, show substantial involvement in their field, pass a rigorous examination, commit to continuing education requirements, and satisfy a peer review of their competence, character, ethics, and professionalism. The program began in 1982 to help the public choose lawyers.
“Obviously all of us couldn’t be prouder of Carrie, but this just confirms what we’ve already known; that she is an excellent City Attorney,” said city manager Pam Brangaccio when informed of the news.
Ms. Avallone graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law in 2003 with a J.D. and a Certificate in Health Law before serving 11 years as Assistant City Attorney for the City of Daytona Beach. After tallying a number of significant accomplishments during her tenure with Daytona Beach, she joined the City of New Smyrna Beach in January 2018.
