The Florida Department of Transportation will be cleaning and painting the drawbridge along State Road 44 / North Causeway in New Smyrna Beach. The work involves cleaning the steel surfaces of the bridge, making spot repairs as needed, and painting to help protect the steel from corrosion and rust.
Impact to Motorists and Boaters
Some of the work on this project will require single lane closures on the bridge with traffic controlled using flagging operations. Other work will be performed underneath the bridge, with little impact to motorists. The contractor is expected to perform most of the work at night to minimize impacts to motorists and boaters.
Boaters are advised that the bridge clearance will be reduced by 36 inches during the project. Additionally, the work will impact nighttime bridge openings. From 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, the drawbridge will open at its normally scheduled times. Nighttime openings will be limited and will be coordinated through the US Coast Guard.
The project will require sidewalks to be closed at times. Pedestrians will be directed safely around the work zone. Please obey posted signs.
