Annexation Fees Waived
The City Commission recently approved waiving annexation fees, zoning fees, land use fees, and advertising fees related to annexing commercial and residential properties into city limits.
Property Tax Exemption
The city has adopted a property tax exemption program provided in Florida Statute 196.1995 for job-creating businesses, approved locally by the City Commission on a case-by-case basis. The tax exemption is available for "up to 100% of the assessed value of improvements to real property made by or for the use of a new business and all tangible personal property of such new business, or up to 100% of the assessed value of all added improvement to real property made to facilitate the expansion of an existing business and of the new increase in all tangible personal property acquired to facilitate such expansion of an existing business." Our staff can help eligible businesses apply for the exemption, but the exemption does not apply to land or existing buildings.
County & State Programs
We can coordinate applications for economic development incentives through Volusia Coutny and Enterprise Florida, including teh Qualified Industry Tax Refund and training grants.
Referrals to Business Resource Agencies
We partner with a number of agencies offering a variety of services free of charge, including employee recruitment and screening, business planning, determining best available financing options, and accessing grant funds. These agencies include Team Volusia, the Small Business Development Center at Daytona State College, SCORE, Career Source, the Volusia County Department of Economic Develoopment, the Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce, Florida Virtual Entreprenuer Center, and the CEO Business Alliance.
Business Planning Information
We provide business planning information including the latest traffic counts for arterial roads within city limits and "ring data" -- demographic data for households within 1-3-5 mile rings from certain commercial addresses.
