Historic Property Plaque Program
Overview
Owners of buildings, which have been recognized as historically significant by the Historic New Smyrna Beach Preservation Commission (HPC), have the opportunity to purchase a bronze plaque in recognition of the building’s historic value. These historic plaques are being offered to promote public appreciation and civic pride in our community's history. The use or maintenance of your property is in no way restricted by displaying the plaque.Buildings that have been recognized as historically significant by the HPC are included in one (1) or more of the following documents:
- Contributing structures in the New Smyrna Beach National Register of Historic Places Historic District
- Contributing structures in the Coronado National Register of Historic Places Historic District
- Comprehensive Plan - Historical and Archaeological Preservation Element
- The building is historically or architecturally significant in terms of its period, style, method of building construction or use of indigenous materials
- The building is a significant reminder of the cultural, or architectural history of the city, state or nation
- The building is associated with a significant local, state or national event
- The building is associated with one or more significant historic persons or events, or with the broad architectural, cultural, political, economic, or social history of the city, state or nation
- The building is one of a the few remaining examples of its period, style, or method of construction
- The building is identified with a person who significantly contributed to the development of the city, state or nation
- The building is identified as the work of a master builder, designer or architect whose individual work has influenced the development of the city, state or nation
- The building value is recognized for the quality of its architecture, and it retains sufficient elements showing its architectural significance
- The building character is in a geographically definable area possessing a significant concentration or continuity of buildings united in past events or aesthetically by plan or physical development
- The building character is in an established and geographically definable neighborhood united in culture, architectural style or physical plan and development
All proceeds raised benefit the continuing preservation programs of the HPC.
