The New Smyrna Beach Sports Complex located at 1800 Turnbull Bay Rd. is protected by Thor Guard, a lightning prediction system which examines the surrounding atmosphere's electrostatic charge to determine whether conditions are favorable for lightning. If so, a long siren will alert everyone to vacate fields immediately and return to their vehicles for safety. Once the all clear has been given, three 5-second blasts will signal when it's safe to resume play.
