Representative Kosmas hosted a meeting on Friday, June 4, 2010 for an update on the south jetty extension by the Army Corp of Engineers (ACOE). Value Engineering on the project has the cost down from $18 million to $14.8 million, which does not include a walkway over the jetty for $1.4 million.
Issues remaining on the project:
- Funding sources and agreements between the various partners - a congressional appropriation is needed for the remaining $5.1 million of the federal share of the project (they have $3.2 million of the $8.3 million federal share); the local share of the project is $6.4 million.
- Permit status - the current permits expire July 2011 and an extension will be needed before the bid can be awarded on the project.
- Public Outreach - ACOE staff requested that local meetings be held to update the public on the status of the comparison data completed of a parallel or dogleg alignment for the 900 linear foot extension.
Future Steps:
Representative Kosmas is working on the federal funding and ACOE is working on the permit extension.
