Terrorism
is the unlawful use of force or violence against persons
or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the
civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance
of political or social objectives.
Since
the events of September 11, 2001, the City of New Smyrna
Beach has taken necessary precautions to prepare, as best
as possible, for any situation that might occur. Security
has been increased at the Municipal Airport and a fence
is being installed along its perimeter. Joint training
programs have occurred between the City, hospital and
other responding agencies. In addition, key personnel
have been trained in emergency preparedness and terrorism
through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
