Indian River Lagoon Preserve Park
Open to Public January 30, 2007
The City of New Smyrna Beach, in cooperation with the Marine Discovery Center (MDC), celebrated with the public the grand opening of the Indian River Lagoon Preserve Park from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Tuesday, January 30, 2007. Following remarks by Mayor James Vandergrifft, the Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce performed the ribbon cutting ceremony at 4:30 PM. The park is located at 663 Sandpiper Avenue, west of Saxon Drive on the beachside. (more)

BEACHSIDE:
- Coronado Civic Center: Located at the corner of Flagler and Pine Street. The facility is home to the Coronado Shuffleboard Club with 20 lighted courts for club play. The Civic Center recreation building includes a dining room, kitchen, and dance hall.
- Detwiler Park: Located at Oakwood Avenue and Horton Street midway between Flagler Avenue and 3rd Avenue in the central beachside area. Park facilities include 5 lighted tennis courts (no reservations required), lighted basketball court, restroom facilities, and a children’s playground.
- Callalisa Park: Located along the South Causeway on Callilisa Creek, this park is mostly popular on the weekends. Fishing and picnicking are available.
- Twenty-seventh Avenue: This is an oceanfront park is located on A1A on the south beach.
MAINLAND:
- Brannon Community Center: This newly renovated facility is located at 105 South Riverside. The facility is the home of the senior center and the community center. The facility is available for rental.
- Emory L. Bennett Park: Located in the downtown district on Sams Avenue, this small park is convenient for passers-by to sit and enjoy the shade of a beautiful oak tree.
- Riverside Park: This beautiful eight acre park is located on the
Indian River at the east end of Route 44 in the downtown area. The park includes walking paths, restroom facilities, and the Manatee All Children’s Playground. The outdoor gazebo is located here and fishing is popular along the boardwalk and fishing pier. The park is the site of many community events including art festivals and the summer concert series.
- Dog Park: 2641 Paige Ave. - An one acre fenced area divided into large dog and small dog play areas. There is a 30x40 shade shelter with a dog and people water fountain. The grounds are grassed with open areas with concrete structures for doggy play.
- Buena Vista Park: Fishing and picnicking are popular in this park on the west side of the Indian River on the North Causeway. A restroom and small playground are available.
- Christmas Park: This small but scenic park is located on the corner of Canal and Live Oak Streets. It features a small stage where concerts are often held.
- Turnbull Street Park: This is a neighborhood park and used
mostly by local youth. It features a new playground.
- Mainland Shuffleboard Club: This square block of recreation
facilities is located between Faulkner Street and Sams Avenue. It provides 17 lighted courts for club play, and 3 Bolina courts centered around the Mainland Clubhouse which can house small meetings.
- Skate Park: Offering two half-pipes and several other obstacles,
this is one of the city’s most popular facilities, open to skaters,
bikers and skateboarders during non-school hours, this free park is
located next to the Mainland Shuffleboard Courts at the corner of Faulkner and Julia Streets.
- North Causeway Boat Ramp: This facility is located on the North Causeway and features docking facilities, fishing pier, a picnic pavilion, playground, and restroom facilities.
- Old Fort Park: The historic Turnbull Ruins are located in this park along with the historic New Smyrna Beach Free Library. This park is located along Riverside Drive across Sams Avenue from City Hall. Several paths and benches are scattered under a beautiful canopy of oak trees. This is the site of the annual Art Fiesta in February. Some summer concerts may be here.
- Women’s Club: This facility is located at 403 Magnolia Street at the South Causeway overpass. The building features a kitchen, stage, and clubroom.
- Recreation Department Office & City Gym: Located at 1000
Live Oak Street, this facility provides a gymnasium, game room for Middle School and High School youth, and two outdoor basketball courts
WESTSIDE:
- Myrtle Avenue Park: A shaded picnic area is the highlight of this park on West Canal Street. The beautiful azaleas bloom during springtime adding a delightful dash of color to the park.
- Alonzo “Babe” James Community Center: Located at 201 North Myrtle Avenue, this facility is equipped with a game room for ping-pong, pool, and a variety of activities, and a gymnasium. The building is available for all ages and is home to the Boys and Girls Club for the after school program.
- Pettis Park: This four acre park is located on Mary Avenue and Duss Street, and includes two lighted tennis courts, two basketball courts, a multi-purpose field, playground, and restroom facilities.
- Mary Street Park: This park features a children’s playground
set under the shadow of a large oak tree.
NORTHSIDE:
- Rocco Park: This neighborhood park offers picnic facilities, tennis and basketball courts, a playground, and a fishing pier on Turnbull Bay. It is located on Sunset Dr. just south of South St.
- Sports Complex: This 68 acre park is located on Sunset Drive just off Turnbull Bay Road. It features a football stadium which is home of the New Smyrna Beach High School Barracuda football and baseball teams, 3 lighted softball fields, 3 lighted soccer fields, 2 lighted multi-purpose fields, 4 lighted little league fields, and 1 lighted baseball field.
- Inlet Shores Park: This small neighborhood park is located on Cunningham Drive and provides a basketball court and small playground.
- Scout Hut: Located on Sunset Drive north of the Municipal
Stadium, this facility has a meeting room, outdoor grill, and plenty
of space for scouting groups to utilize for various functions.
