There are many improvements included as part of the Islesboro Drainage Improvements project which is a jointly funded project between the City of New Smyrna Beach and the Utilities Commission of New Smyrna Beach. Priority improvements include the following:

  1. Roadway improvements include - Paving of roughly 21,400 square yards of existing shell rock roadways, which requires the implementation of additional water quality measures, including the installation of roadway swales. Milling and overlaying of existing paved roadway, removal and replacement of driveways, and the installation of new curbing.
  2. Stormwater improvements for this project shall also include the installation of approximately 25,350 linear feet of underground stormwater pipe, ranging in size from 12” to 54” in diameter.
  3. Potable water improvements for this project shall include the installation of approximately 12,000 linear feet of underground potable watermain, ranging in size from 2” to 6” in diameter. The project will also include the installation of approximately 28 fire hydrants, 140 water services, and various isolation valves, fittings, and transitions.
  4. Wastewater improvements for this project shall include the installation of approximately 1,900 linear feet of underground 8” diameter gravity sanitary sewer main. The project will also include the installation of approximately 140 sanitary service laterals, and various force main transitions.
  5. Wastewater expansion for this project shall include the installation of approximately 3,000 linear feet of underground 8” diameter gravity sanitary sewer main. The project will also include the installation of approximately 53 sanitary service laterals to properties that currently connect to septic tanks, or are vacant.
